Industry Has Reactions to AI Cybersecurity Order. Reactions Were Submitted on Friday.

The executive order on ai cybersecurity requested public comment. Industries submitted feedback by friday. The feedback indicated that the industries preferred not to be regulated in ways that would reduce profits. This feedback will now inform how the order is implemented by the agencies that received it.

Regulatory capture is a documented phenomenon. The regulated entities have structural advantages in commenting processes. They have lawyers. They have time. They have clarity about what they want. Public interest groups have volunteers and grant cycles. The process treats these as equivalent inputs.

The order will be implemented. It will contain provisions suggested by the industries. Some of these provisions will be adequate. Some will not. Nobody will be able to point to a moment where the outcome became predetermined, because the outcome was built into the structure of the process itself.
