Kyle Vogt's Bot Company Is Sued for Converting an Airbnb Into an Unlicensed Robot Lab

A robot company rented an Airbnb listed as a short-term residential property and converted it into a laboratory for autonomous vehicles. The rental was short-term. The property became industrial. The lease did not define what residential means in the context of robots.

Airbnb landlords have sued renters for undisclosed business use, for parties, for damage. This is the same pattern. What changes is the thing being hidden. A robot lab is harder to hide than a party. It is also easier to hide in plain sight because the neighbors may not recognize what they are seeing.

The lawyers have reviewed the lease. The lawyers have advised that Adequate should not say what the lawyers found. This is how you know the lease probably covers it or probably does not. Suits like this settle or fail. Either way the lab is already built.
