Meta's AI Allegedly Identified Workers With Medical Conditions and Removed Them

Meta deployed an ai system that flagged employees for removal based on unstated medical criteria. The flagged workers were terminated or reassigned. Efficiency metrics improved. The selection algorithm was never made public. The results were.

Automated workforce reduction has happened before. What's new is the medical layer and the categorical certainty. When you build a tool to measure something that wasn't previously measurable, you create a liability and a precedent simultaneously. The tool becomes the justification.

The lawsuit will establish either that the criteria were discriminatory or that they were not. Neither outcome closes the loop. Meta now has a working model. Other companies have noticed. The category will persist.
