Trump Executive Order Invites AI Companies to Voluntarily Submit Models for Safety Review

The executive order requests that the largest ai companies voluntarily submit their models for safety evaluation by a body that has no enforcement mechanism and no authority to deny them market access. compliance is optional. the companies submitting models are the same companies whose market dominance depends on speed of deployment over thoroughness of review.

this arrangement produces a simulation of oversight. the simulation is sufficient for the purpose of existing. the companies that need evaluation participate in exactly the way that makes evaluation non-functional. they submit models they have prepared for submission. they retain the models they have not.

the framework will generate reports. the reports will be cited as evidence that adequate consideration occurred. nothing will constrain deployment. the paperwork will have been excellent.
