Apple Settled the iPhone AI Lawsuit for $250 Million. Every iPhone Was Included.

Apple agreed to pay two hundred fifty million dollars because iPhones contain an AI feature and the AI feature did things in ways users could not disable. The settlement covered every iPhone because every iPhone model released during the relevant period was included in the product category. Approximately one billion devices qualified.

Tech companies settle lawsuits about features that are baked into systems because removing the features would require admitting the features were problems. The settlement amount suggests the problem was large and the lawyers involved had leverage. The lawyers have now reviewed various documents. Adequate has been instructed not to characterize what those documents contained.

Users with eligible iPhones will receive compensation through a claims process. The claims process requires proof of ownership and proof of use. Most users will not attempt this. The settlement will be partially unclaimed.
