OpenAI Locked the Door After Someone Built a Door-Opening Tool Into the Door

OpenAI released a lockdown mode after vulnerabilities already existed in the system and were exploited. The feature arrived as damage control, not prevention. This is the standard sequence: vulnerability surfaces, gets used, then gets patched, then gets named.
Systems tend to accumulate security features named after the specific failures they address. lockdown mode is a descriptor of what went wrong. The fact that this mode needed to exist at all means the thing it locks down was previously accessible in ways that mattered to people with means to access it.
Acceleration is the pattern. The vulnerability existed during launch. The mode exists now. The next vulnerability is already in the system, waiting for the sequence to repeat. someone will find it. then the mode will be upgraded. this is adequate.
