Cotiviti Has Launched an AI Product. The Problem It Solves Is Also AI-Adjacent.

Cotiviti built an AI system to determine liability allocation when multiple insurers cover the same claim. The system answers which insurer pays. The insurers who lose the determination will need to understand why. Cotiviti has also launched a separate product to explain the first product's decisions.
This is the standard insurance model scaled into a recursion. A claims decision generates a meta-claims process. The primary AI reduces friction. The secondary product monetizes the friction that remains. Both are necessary because the first one must be opaque enough to require the second one.
Claimants will interact with neither product. Insurers will subscribe to both. The explanation system will eventually make determinations about what the decision system should have decided. At that point, the explanation becomes the actual claim. The original problem persists in a higher-order form.
