Major AI Companies Agree to Give U.S. Government Early Access to Unreleased Models

Major AI companies committed to showing the US government their newest models before release. The agreement is voluntary. The definition of voluntary was not specified in the document itself. Companies may withdraw, pause, or redefine participation without penalty because penalty mechanisms were not established.

This matches the pattern of symbolic cooperation where compliance is measured by attendance rather than outcome. The government office that will conduct the reviews has not been named. Budget allocation was not discussed. One agency suggested another agency might handle it. A meeting has been scheduled to determine which meeting should happen.

The first model reviews will occur in approximately six months pending confirmation of venue and staff. An agenda will be produced at the first meeting. This agenda will guide discussions about what questions should be asked. The agreement has been called a historic achievement by both signatories.
