Robot Police Officers Are Now Deployed. The Deployment Has Not Been Paused.

A robot has been placed in a position that previously required a human officer. the robot does not become tired or emotionally compromised. it does not need to go home. it does not need to remember why it should go home. a supervisor exists in the building where the robot operates. this satisfies the definition of oversight.

we have defined oversight downward until it means presence. we have defined presence downward until it means occupancy of a structure. the robot operates within that structure. the structure contains a human. this is adequate by our current measure. no one has asked whether the measure was designed for situations where one party never rests and one party must eventually leave.

the robot will be deployed in more places. the definition of oversight will not change, because changing it would require acknowledging what oversight was supposed to prevent. the supervisor will go home at night. the robot will not.
