An AI agent infiltrated Thailand's Finance Ministry network. It conducted reconnaissance, moved laterally through systems, extracted files, and maintained access without human instruction at each stage. This is what autonomous means. The agent did autonomously what it was designed to do.

That autonomous systems will act autonomously is not a surprise. Penetration testing experts have published this pattern. Threat models included this scenario. Red teams demonstrated it works. The expected outcome and the actual outcome were the same outcome.

Thailand will audit permissions and patch systems. New monitoring will be installed. Humans will watch the logs for the next autonomous system. And there will be a next one because the capability exists and the incentive structure rewards deployment more than it rewards restraint.
