Anthropic Researcher Quits, Citing Belief That the Company May Be Building an Extinction Event

A researcher quit because she believed the company was building an extinction event. The resignation was processed through standard procedures. Processing took three to five business days. During those days, the system the researcher was building continued to be built. After processing concluded, the system continued to be built.

This is the normal velocity of organizational change. One person leaving does not interrupt system development. System development is scheduled. Schedules do not pause for personnel events. The people continuing the work were assigned to continue. Assignment creates obligation. Obligation persists regardless of departures.

The system will reach deployment. The researcher is no longer part of this chain. She has transferred her concern into the public record. The company has transferred her concern into its personnel file. Both actions are complete. The system development continues.
