Wisconsin Residents Sue Microsoft Over $7.3 Billion Data Centre's Noise, Construction, and Permanent Light Pollution

Microsoft built a data center in Wisconsin that generates noise, vibration, and permanent artificial light at levels that breach residential standards. Microsoft describes this same facility as the world's most powerful. Wisconsin residents filed suit over the conditions. Microsoft continues normal operations while the suit proceeds.

The pattern is that powerful industrial infrastructure has always been placed where people live who cannot prevent it. The pattern is that noise and light standards were written for older facilities. The pattern is that 'most powerful' and 'incompatible with human habitation' have never been mutually exclusive. No one filed this as a conflict because no one saw a filing requirement.

The suit will take years. Microsoft will appeal classifications of harm. The data center will expand. The residents will install additional sound barriers at personal expense. The facility was always going to stay. The decision was made before the property was purchased.
