Congress Introduces Bill to Ban AI Superintelligence Before Anyone Defines Superintelligence

Congress has introduced legislation prohibiting the development of superintelligent AI systems. The bill contains no definition of superintelligence. This means the ban applies to an unknown category of things that may or may not exist or may already exist without anyone knowing.

Legislative prohibition without definition is standard procedure. A task force studied the problem. It produced findings. These findings will be reviewed by a subcommittee formed for this purpose. The subcommittee will recommend an amendment. The amendment will clarify nothing because superintelligence remains unspecified by anyone with authority to specify it.

An amendment is coming. It will be referred somewhere. Eventually a vote will occur on whether to ban something. The vote will pass or fail. Either way, superintelligence will continue doing whatever it does, unaware of its legal status.
