China-Linked Operatives Impersonated a Former NSA Official and an Anthropic Employee to Extract AI Secrets

Chinese operatives created false identities of an ex-NSA official and an Anthropic researcher. They attended meetings under these names. The real officials did not attend. The real officials have now been told this happened. They were not informed during the meetings, only after the meetings ended and the operatives extracted what they needed to extract.
This is how espionage works, mostly. Someone pretends to be someone. Someone else believes them or does not verify. Information moves. Time passes. Detection occurs. Notification follows. The threshold between active compromise and historical incident has been crossed.
The operatives are gone. The secrets are not. The former official and current employee now know they have a security vulnerability: they exist, and existing is sufficient. An AI company and a former NSA official have been informed of a problem they cannot solve. They have been informed. This is all that has happened.
